Bollywood star Krishnakumar Kunnath – affectionately known as KK – has died at the age of 53.
The singer is said to have felt unwell after returning to his hotel following a performance in Kolkata, India, tonight, Thehindu.com reports.
The publication says he had performed at Nazrul Manch before falling ill well he headed back to his hotel.
It’s reported he was rushed to a private hospital, but tragically died despite doctors’ best efforts to save him.
Times of India is reporting his cause of death as a heart attack, although nothing official has been stated just yet.

“It’s unfortunate that we could not treat him,” a senior hospital official is quoted as saying.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi was among those to express his shock and sadness at KK’s sudden death.
He tweeted: “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK.
“His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups.
“We will always remember him through his songs.
“Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.”
KK’s impressive career
KK had a huge following thanks to recording songs in many languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali.
KK had burst onto the scene in 1999 with his album Pal.
Among his biggest hits are songs Tadap Tadap and Dus Bahane.
He released another solo album, Humsafar, in 2008 and appeared on numerous compilations over the years.
He also won several awards during his career, and was nominated for many others.
KK last posted on Instagram just 12 hours before news of his death spread.
The Bollywood favourite shared a duo of photographs of himself performing to a packed crowd.
He’d captioned his post: “Pulsating gig tonight at Nazrul Mancha. Vivekananda College !! Love you all”
Fans devastated
Following the tragic news of his death, fans took to KK’s final Instagram post to leave their tributes.
“Rest in peace,” one simply put.
While another wrote: “RIP Sir”.
“I am still in disbelief,” another admitted.
And one commented: “I’ll miss u”
Another devastated fan penned: “Can’t believe this . Rest in music legend ! I’m numb and heartbroken”
