Matthew Perry’s new book Friends, Lovers And The Big Terrible Thing is due for release to the public on November 1, and includes (among other things) references to Keanu Reeves, a young Valerie Bertinelli, and being given a “2% chance to live” after he suffered a burst colon.

“I’m grateful to be alive, that’s for sure,” he said in a new interview, as quoted by Self.

In one passage, he discusses his friendship with late actor River Phoenix. He calls River a “beautiful man, inside and out,” and laments that it “always seems to be the really talented guys who go down.”

“Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” he wrote. Which, as you can imagine, has been a huge boost for The Internet.

What else did Matthew Perry say about Keanu Reeves?

Perry makes not one but two references to Reeves in his new book, according to Forbes.

Later, he talks about how he reacted to the death of actor and comedian Chris Farley, who like Matthew Perry suffered from addiction – but who, unlike Perry, ultimately succumbed to it

“I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out,” Forbes quotes him as writing. “Keanu Reeves walks among us. I had to promote Almost Heroes two weeks after he died; I found myself publicly discussing his death from drugs and alcohol.”

Buddy comedy movie Almost Heroes stars Chris Farley and Matthew Perry as two glory-seeking explorers.

Perry has since apologized. “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu,” the actor said in a statement, per Deadline. “I just chose a random name, my mistake [and] I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”

How do Matthew Perry and Keanu Reeves’ net worth estimates compare?

The emergent details of Perry’s new book have caused an Internet sensation.

Articles are springing out of the ether discussing his claim that he had an “elaborate make-out session” with former costar and fellow actor Valerie Bertinelli – which Bertinelli has cryptically responded to by neither confirming nor denying; the time doctors told his family he had a 2% chance to live; and of course the “perplexing beef” Matthew appears to have with The Matrix star Keanu Reeves. But how does the latter’s net worth match up?

Celebrity Net Worth writes that, by Matthew Perry’s own estimate, he has spent “some $9 million” on getting sober during the course of his life. That’s $1 million more than Keanu Reeves earned for his work on The Devil’s Advocate, per the same site.

Ultimately, the net worth comparison might surprise you: Matthew Perry’s personal wealth reportedly amounts to $120 million, while Keanu Reeves’ is an estimated $380 million.

What are the primary sources of each actor’s wealth?

It will come as little surprise, however, that the lion’s share of Perry’s career earnings have been from Friends.

As Chandler Bing, his per-episode salary started at $22,500 in season 1. It rose steadily throughout the first six seasons (to $125,000 per episode in season 6).

The cast negotiated a steep pay rise for the following seasons. They got a massive $750,000 per episode in seasons 7 and 8, and $1 million per episode in seasons 9 and 19.

In total, therefore, Matthew Perry’s net worth is $90 million higher as a result of the show – and that’s “before backend bonuses and on-going royalties” – but what about Keanu Reeves’ career earnings?

Keanu Reeves’ earnings from Matrix sequels alone equal Matthew Perry’s entire net worth

Reeves’ first box office success was the 1989 hit Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure. It grossed over $40 million domestically, and catapulted him onto the world stage.

1994 action movie Speed made $350 million, but it was The Matrix that secured Keanu Reeves’ reputation as global superstar.

With a total gross revenue of $1.6 billion, The Matrix is one of the most successful film franchises of all time. Celebrity Net Worth estimates Keanu Reeves’ total earnings from the three Matrix films as more than $200 million. But “at least $120 million” of that came in the form of “bonuses from the second and third movies.”

That means Keanu Reeves has made the equivalent of Matthew Perry’s entire net worth in bonuses from two sequels – per CNW’s estimates.
