American bass player Randy Rand, known as one of the founding members of metal band Autograph, has died.
Autograph released a statement on their Facebook page on 26 April 2022 confirming the passing of their ‘cherished friend’.

Randy Rand’s age
Celebrating his birthday on 18 May, Randy Rand was 71 years old at the time of his passing.
A husband, father and grandfather, Rand was survived by his wife, Regina Rand. Whilst Randy’s personal life remained out of the limelight, for the most part, Autograph described Regina as Randy’s ‘beautiful and infinite love’, in their recent statement.
Although the Autograph bassist remained quiet on social media, Regina often posts about her family and relationship.
Primarily known as a member and founder of Autograph, Rand also had a career crafting leather. Randy Rand Leather Ltd produced handcrafted guitar straps, signed by the bassist himself.
Music career
Randy Rand’s music career first began in the 1970s when he played in bands at Sunset Strip, California.
By 1984 Rand had formed Autograph alongside Keni Richards, Steve Lynch, Steven Isham and Steve Plunkett in Pasadena, California.
In the same year, the band released their first album, Sign In Please and had their only top-40 hit for Turn up the Radio which now has over 23 million streams on Spotify.
The band which had drifted apart rekindled in 2011 with newly added members. As of 2022, Rand was the only founding member still performing and touring with Autograph.

Rand’s death confirmed
Autograph announced a statement confirming Rand’s death across their social media channels on 26 April 2022.
Rand’s cause of death is yet to be announced, however, the statement confirmed his passing to be ‘unexpected’.
A friend of Regina Rand posted to her Facebook page to also provide a statement on her behalf which reads, “This is Doris on behalf of Regina. It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts. To announce the unexpected passing of Randy Rand. We are asking that everyone please give the family. Their time to process and grief. They both love all of you.”
Fans of the bassist have also been sharing their condolences.
