Macaulay Culkin may have had a turbulent life but he has found stability in his relationship with fellow child star, Disney Channel’s Brenda Song.
Macaulay is best known as the lead actor of the 1990s Home Alone movies, as he became the decade’s biggest child star. Brenda launched to fame for her role in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, along with other Disney shows and movies.
As it is Culkin’s birthday today, August 26, and the child star is turning 42 years old, let’s take a look inside his romance with Disney’s Brenda Song.
Inside Macaulay Culkin’s romance with Brenda Song
Culkin and Song met in June 2017, when they both starred in the movie Changeland which was written and directed by Seth Green. Not long after their first meeting, rumors started circulating that they were dating as the pair were spotted having dinner at Craig’s in July 2017.
By late September, they were practically confirmed to be dating as they were holding hands on a double date at Knott’s Berry farm with Seth Green and his wife, Clare Grant.
In 2020, the director who brought the two together, told Esquire about his reaction to Song and Culkin’s relationship, admitting “I didn’t see that one coming.” Culkin revealed in the same interview that his relationship with Song was going very well.
Fellow child stars share a bond
Song admitted that she initially bonded with Culkin on the set of Changeland over both being former child stars.
Brenda told Entertainment Tonight that this gave them an instant connection: “Child actors, we don’t even get to talk about it, you just look each other in the eye and you nod and we know,” she said.
The pair have previously dated other celebrities who are in the public eye. Brenda was previously engaged to Miley Cyrus’ half-brother Trace, but they split in 2012 after an eight-month relationship.
Culkin divorced Rachel Miner in 2002 after nearly two years of marriage, he also dated Hollywood A-Lister Mila Kunis for eight years, breaking up in 2011.

In August 2020, Song shared a heartfelt 40th birthday post to Culkin who she described as a “magical being” in the caption of a photo of them wearing matching pyjamas with their names on the back.

In a 2018 interview on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Culkin talked about the future and having children with Song: “This one’s a good one, so I’m probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit.” He added, “I’m going to have some pretty babies. She’s Asian, so I’m gonna have tiny little Asian babies. It’s going to be adorable.”
On April 5, 2021, Culkin and Song announced the birth of their first baby, a son named Dakota. In the statement, the family admitted, “We’re overjoyed.” The baby was reportedly named after Culkin’s sister, Dakota Culkin, who died in 2008 after getting hit by a car in Los Angeles.
On January 26, 2022, People reported that Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song were engaged. The lovebirds have kept most of the details private, but fans are over the moon for the duo.
