This is a pretty big deal for people who like the show Sinister.

The horror movie came out in 2012 and was directed by Scott Derrickson. Ethan Hawke played the main role of a true-crime writer who is looking into a string of horrible murders. Scott didn’t come back to direct the second movie, and Ethan didn’t play the same part again.

But ten years later, they’re working together again on The Black Phone, which has been praised by critics and has gotten a lot of attention from the general public.

Scott last directed the MCU hit Doctor Strange in 2016, and he hasn’t made a full-length movie since then. So it’s great to see him go back to what made him famous.

IS THE STORY IN THE BLACK PHONE REAL?

The Black Phone is not based on a true story. Instead, it is a version of Joe Hill’s short story with the same name from 2004.

It’s one of the many stories that were published in 20th Century Ghosts, the first book-length work by the American author. It was first sold in the UK in 2005, and the US would get it as part of a collection in 2007.

Among the other stories were Best New Horror, Pop Art, and the short with the same name.

For those who don’t know what to expect from the movie, a child serial killer named “The Grabber” takes a teen named “Finney,” who is played by Mason Thames (Ethan Hawke).

While he is in jail, he can use a phone to talk to the Grabber’s past victims, who are trying to help him get away.

‘THERE’S THIS VERY AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL STORY’

“THIS STORY IS VERY AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL”

Even though The Black Phone isn’t based on a true story, Joe Hill recently said in an interview with Bloody Disgusting that some parts of the story that aren’t in the source material are based on Scott Derrickson’s life:

He went on to say, “There’s a very autobiographical story about growing up in the Midwest in the violent 1970s.” It’s a story about Scott’s childhood, and it moves with an emotional precision that feels like a pinpoint. It finds the time with forensic precision.”

In 2008, he directed The Day the Earth Stood Still, which starred Keanu Reeves.
