‘Men and women were created equal, no one is superior while the other is inferior’ – Hilda Dokubo

Veteran actress, Hilda Dokubo mentioned that ladies and men are born equal and nobody is inferior to the other.

The actress mentioned that religion and custom couldn’t be utterly absolved of blame in circumstances of dwelling violence.

She acknowledged, “Cultural and spiritual establishments are the ‘creators’ of gender. They are those who say, ‘this is male and female; and that one is superior while the other is inferior’. God by no means categorized women and men that manner. Men and ladies had been created equal.

“Traditional and religious leaders need to ensure that everybody is protected, including children. People should not be made vulnerable or exposed to danger because of the things they (religious and traditional leaders) approve. Whatever is approved stays and whatever stays becomes a tradition.”

The seasoned actress may also be emphatic that Nollywood shouldn’t be blamed for circumstances of dwelling violence in society.

She acknowledged, “The portrayal has always been according to the culture being depicted in the movie. We (Nollywood) mirror society and proffer solutions. I don’t think Nollywood is solely responsible for how women are treated.”

Asked if considers leaving an abusive marriage to be the reply to dwelling violence, the actress acknowledged, “It will depend on what the abuse is. My first possibility is to not depart your own home. My first possibility will probably be to talk to the abused or the abuser. That is that if the abuse is verbal, monetary, psychological or emotional. If that’s the case, I’ll let the abuser perceive that the abused is can not take the abuse. The motive is that sine folks don’t know that their partner is being damage by their actions.

“But, if it is physical abuse, my advice is that the person should leave the environment completely. The actions of a man who can hit a woman cannot be predicted. Such a person needs mental evaluation.”

Though some people say that if a lady has her private money, it’ll cut back the velocity at which she could also be maltreated by males, Dokubo asserted that girls shouldn’t should bear the ‘burden’ of stopping males from being violent within the route of them.
