Jô Soares, a well-known musician and comedian, passed away on August 5 at the age of 84. His ex-wife, Flavia Pedra, broke the news by writing on social media:
Jô Soares, a television icon from Brazil, passed away at age 84. In the years leading up to the 2016 coup, he treated Dilma Rousseff with respect on his late-night chat show. As a result, he was the victim of a smear campaign and was ejected from the Globo TV network. He had been a mainstay of conservative, mainstream TV for decades.
Since July 28, 2022, Jô Soares has been undergoing treatment at the Sirio Libanes hospital in Sao Paulo for pneumonia. However, the precise cause of death is still unknown.
Family members have not revealed how long Soares had the illness or whether he had previously experienced any other health issues.
