Vince McMahon, the head of WWE, has shocked the wrestling community by announcing his retirement from the company. It was widely reported in June 2022 that the WWE was looking into allegations of sexual misconduct against McMahon. Additionally, it was revealed that Vince had allegedly had a covert romance with a female employee, with whom he had paid a $3 million settlement.

Since the early 1980s, McMahon has led WWE as CEO and chairman, succeeding his father, Vince McMahon Sr. Stephanie McMahon, the former CEO’s daughter, will now lead the charge alongside Co-CEO Nick Khan. Stephanie made an appearance at the WWE Smackdown event on Friday, July 22, following the revelation of her father’s retirement, and she thanked the crowd for their support as cries of “Thank you, Vince” filled the air.

Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Stephanie’s husband, will immediately resume his duties as the WWE’s EVP of Talent Relations, the WWE recently revealed.

Vince’s ‘Sexual Misconduct’ Controversy

According to the January 2022 separation agreement between McMahon and the female staff member, who was employed as a paralegal in 2019, she is not allowed to talk about or disparage him, according to the Wall Street Journal. People who spoke with the former employee, age 41, while she worked at WWE claim that she had financial difficulties before to joining the company and mentioned a desire for additional funds. Even Vince’s on-camera alter ego, McMahon, has long been portrayed as a womanizer. Among McMahon’s shenanigans were his intimate associations with the younger, female performers.

Additionally, according to The Wall Street Journal, McMahon has spent $12 million over the past 16 years to cover up charges of “sexual misbehavior and infidelity.” These funds allegedly went to four female employees who had previously worked for the business. The $12 million allegedly included $7.5 million for a former WWE female wrestler who claimed the company president forced her to have oral sex, demoted her, and terminated her contract in 2005 after she refused to have more sex with him.

Although McMahon didn’t mention the claims specifically, he vowed to support the inquiry. In a statement released in June, he said, “I love this firm and am committed to working with the Independent Directors to develop our culture and our Company; it is incredibly essential to me that we have a safe and productive workplace. I’ve promised to do all in my power to help the Special Committee finish its job, including enlisting the support of the entire firm to aid in the conclusion of the inquiry and the implementation of its recommendations.

In 1999, World Wrestling Entertainment, better known as WWE, became public. The World Wrestling Federation was its former name. Raw and SmackDown, the top two WWE programs, have dominated cable TV since the 1990s. The corporation has recently struggled to retain the same level of fan involvement as several of the industry’s prominent performers left for Hollywood or retired, making McMahon’s legacy hole difficult to fill.
