WATCH: Georgia police officers are suspended after a video of them using the n-word went viral online.

A Georgia police officer was caught on tape using racist insults while executing a warrant on August 7, 2022. The officer seen in the video, along with four other officers engaged in the case, were ultimately suspended after the video became widely popular online.

On August 7, the home’s resident, Tomeshia Madden, posted the incriminating video to Facebook and said that she and her teenage son no longer felt comfortable there and had begun looking for new places to move to.

The West Point police, according to reports in the media, were there to carry out a warrant for Madden’s son. To serve the warrant, they proceeded to the Booker Hills home, but nobody was there.

The Georgia Police Department gave Donald Bramblett, who was identified as the officer heard using the n-word on tape, a leave of absence. Officers Dylan Harmon, Heyboer, Osteen, William, and Wegienka all participated in the incident and were issued similar leave directives.

A GBI investigation into the situation has begun.

An cop can be seen waiting at the entrance in the video. They start rambling incoherently as a second officer approaches.

Unaware that there was another camera above him, one of the police then reportedly said a racial insult as he disassembled the home’s security system and threw it into the surrounding bushes.

Georgia Police received harsh criticism after a viral video

The video was also featured on the popular Reddit site r/PublicFreakout, where it received over 200 comments denouncing the pervasive bigotry in rural Georgia.

u/arch nyc remarked as follows:

“In a rural Georgian area, I grew up. I should say that I haven’t lived there since the middle of the last decade. You wouldn’t believe how racist the typical white person there was, even in that case. In the presence of solely white people, they would be polite in public, but I had witnessed practically everyone I knew refer to African Americans using the N-word.”

The officers ought to be dismissed, according to a comment from another user, u/Optimal Locke.

The message reads:

“Suspended? They ought to be fired and barred from ever working as cops again. They OUTRIGHTLY exhibit racial prejudice and hostility against people of colour, and they have no business being security guards, much less police officers.”

Tomeshia Madden lodged a misconduct claim after the incident. Wendell Major, Madden’s attorney, provided the following statement to the media:

“It is improper for public servants to use racial slurs while performing their duties. In our culture, young black males are frequently implicated, and they must provide proof that they are innocent. Here, a uniformed officer is trying to hide the evidence of what transpired.”
The officers will continue to be on administrative leave while GBI conducts its investigation. After the investigation is complete, the authorities will forward the case file to the Coweta Judicial Circuit’s district attorney’s office for review.
