On Thursday night, a car struck the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial Centennial Celebration and injured numerous people, including two Gallup police officers.

State Police Lt. Mark Soriano told the Albuquerque Journal that no one was killed in the incident in the city of Gallup, but he was unable to say how serious the injuries were.

The New Mexico State Police tweeted that they had detained the motorist and were investigating the incident.

Social media videos showed a brown SUV going down the street while the parade goers dispersed to make room for it. In a another video, witnesses and policemen can be seen approaching the SUV that was totaled and taking at least one man out.

Videos from the event have been shared on social media. One Facebook user wrote on the platform, “We thought it would be good to spend the evening at the Gallup Parade. The most terrifying thing to witness was a drunk driver shooting while driving through the crowd. Pushing and crowding. People are being crushed underfoot. Do check on your family members if they join the procession.”
