Two women were shot by a shooter in the parking lot of Cornerstone Church on the eastern outskirts of Ames, Lowa, USA on June 2, 2022. Later, he killed himself with the same gun he used to murder those girls.
Jonathan Lee Whitlatch, 33, of Boone, allegedly killed Eden Mariah Montang and Vivian Renee Flores in the parking lot of Ames Cornerstone Church, according to officers on the scene. After killing the two girls, he took his own life.

Both of the girls were Iowa State University students. Montang is a senior in Human Development and Family Studies, according to the school catalogue. Whitlatch had recently broken up with Montang, and Whitlatch was abusing his ex-girlfriend.
Story County Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald stated at a news conference in Nevada on Friday morning that the 911 call centre received the first calls about the event shortly after 6:50 p.m.
Other people arrived minutes after the incident and discovered all three of them on the ground with bullet wounds. At the site, paramedics attempted to help, but they were unable.
On Tuesday, he was accused with domestic violence and impersonation. Montang is involved in both cases. On June 10, he was scheduled to appear in court.
According to authorities, Montang, Flores, and a buddy were approaching the church from the parking lot when Whitlatch, armed with a 9mm pistol, approached the parking lot from his truck. Whitlatch is said to have opened fire, instantaneously killing Montang and Flores. Whitlatch afterwards shot himself in the head and died instantaneously. During the shootout, the third girl found refuge and was unharmed.
Montang and Flores, the girlfriend of Ames Church Shooting Victim Johnathan Lee Whitlatch, were attending a salvage Bible study programme at the Salt Company. The shooting occurred in the church’s parking lot, with no indication that the attacker planned to enter the building.
Cornerstone Church issued a statement acknowledging that the women killed were members of their community, but it gave no other details on the shooting victims.
In a statement, the church official added, “Our hearts go out to all the victims, and we pray for everyone impacted, especially the families of the deceased.” On Friday, the church intended to organise a prayer service for the victims.
