At 5:40 pm Wednesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatched to the area of Byron Highway and Camino Diablo for an overturned vehicle crash in the Town of Byron.
It was reported that a vehicle overturned and wires were down with a pole fire.
A short-time later, crews arrived on scene and reported a fully involved vehicle fire with wires down and a pole impacted. They requested a wildland fire as vegetation was catching fire–the fire was estimated at 1/2 acre.
BC5 reported a total of 8 patients with 4 people being released at scene and 4 people to be transported by AMR to local hospitals.
As of 6:07 pm, the fire was still estimated at 1/2 acre.
Alameda County Fire and CALFIRE were also responding and CHP were also on scene.
UPDATE
This incident is now a fatality and as of 6:10 pm, a SIGALERT was issued as Byron Highway at Camino Diablo is closed in both directions. 5 AMR units attached to the scene.
