THE bodies of five people and a dog have been discovered in a Minnesota home after a police standoff, officials have said.

Officers were called to the home in East Hilllside, Duluth, at 11am on Wednesday to carry out a welfare check.

When officers arrived an hour later, they found a man experiencing a mental health crisis, and a standoff ensued when police learned he had access to weapons.

When police were able to search the home, they found five people and a dog dead.

One of the people found dead was the suspect, police say.

All of the deceased were related, Fox21 reports.
