A MAN has died after a shooting erupted at the end of a high school basketball game.
The victim was shot in the parking lot after the game ended between Beloit Memorial High School in Wisconsin and LaFollette High School.
Bystanders heard gunshots and ran back inside the stadium forcing the high school into a brief lockdown before the LaFollette basketball team returned to their bus and headed back to Madison.
A spokesperson for Madison Metropolitan School District said no one from the LaFollette team was affected by the incident, NBC15 reported.
They said: “We have been in contact with all the team family members.”
Later in an update police called for the community’s help and cooperation.
They said: “If you have information about this shooting or have any video footage of the incident, please reach out to our department.
“We will provide another update late tomorrow morning.”
City of Beloit Police Department are now investigating the incident as a homicide.
They said: “This is an active and ongoing investigation. We will provide more details as we are able.”
The School District of Beloit is cooperating fully with inquires.
