Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

Now that House of the Dragon has begun, bloodthirsty Game of Thrones fans are eagerly awaiting every incoming instalment.

With Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock, Emma D’Arcy) both vying for the throne that is currently held by King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine), the series promises plenty of drama in the weeks to come.

House of the Dragon episode 1 (The Heirs of the Dragon) and House of the Dragon episode 2 (The Rogue Prince) are both available already on Sky and the NOW streaming service.

Looking ahead, there are eight more episodes to come before the first season of House of the Dragon is complete. And a second season has been confirmed already!

So, when does the next instalment of House of the Dragon arrive? RadioTimes.com has everything you need to know about the House of the Dragon release schedule.

When is House of the Dragon episode 3 released?

House of the Dragon episode 3, Second Of His Name, will be released on Monday 5th September 2022 at 2am BST.

The episode will be made available on Sky Atlantic and NOW.

What will happen in House of the Dragon episode 3?

In the trailer for House of the Dragon episode 3, titled Second Of His Name, Rhys Ifans’ Ser Otto Hightower intones some ominous words.

The Hand of the King states, “The road ahead is uncertain, but the end is clear… Aegon will be king. He’s the first-born son of the king.”

Indeed, the arrival of a living male heir does throw something of a spanner in the works for Rhaenyra and Daemon, both of whom fancied the Iron Throne for themselves.

“Even I do not exist above tradition and duty,” barks Paddy Considine’s Viserys later in the trailer, during a conversation where he seemingly encourages Rhaenyra to marry and have her own children.

Rhaenyra appears to do a runner (well, she rides off on a horse), before the focus of the trailer shifts to the so-called Crabfeeder that is making war on the Stepstones.

That particular matter seems to be urgent, and before the trailer ends we see dragon fire laying waste to the area. But whose dragon is it, and what do they stand to gain by stamping out this violence? We’ll just have to tune in and find out!
