Ms. Marvel’s Directors Confirm Kevin Feige Is a Big DCEU Fan

Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige is a great admirer of the DC Extended Universe, according to Ms. Marvel filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

El Arbi and Fallah recounted how they found Feige’s fondness for the DCEU after announcing they had committed to helm a film based in the rival shared universe in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “We sent an email to [Marvel Studios] saying we were going to make Batgirl, and Kevin Feige, Victoria [Alonso], and Lou [D’Esposito] all replied, ‘Congratulations!’” Fallah remarked. “They were ecstatic for us. People claim that there is a rivalry, but this is not the case.” El Arbi echoed his long-time directing partner, saying, “[Marvel and DC] are each other’s biggest admirers. ‘How’s it going?’ Kevin would frequently inquire. ‘What are your plans?’ That was extremely cool since he was a huge fan.”

Feige’s enthusiasm for the DCEU corresponds to a recent rumor that he was on the verge of switching from Marvel Studios to Warner Bros. some years ago. According to this story, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige “spoke quite seriously” with Warner Bros. about taking over the company’s DC-inspired superhero picture slate. These meetings reportedly took place after feuds between Feige and Marvel Entertainment Chairman and former CEO Ike Perlmutter over the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe became more regular.

Feige eventually elected to stay with Marvel Studios and is now overseeing Phase Four of the MCU. He recently stated that one of his aims for this chapter of the franchise is to ensure that each film and television program is tonally and artistically distinct. “I appreciate it when people remark things like, “Look, [the Phase Four projects] are all distinct.” Because that’s how we always feel about them and how we want them to feel about themselves “he stated Feige used the deliberate transition between the rougher tone of Moon Knight and the more light-hearted tone of the Disney+ series that followed it, Ms. Marvel, as an example.

However, at least one of Feige’s Phase Four moves has enraged one superhero star. Iman Vellani, star of Ms. Marvel, recently highlighted her continuing dispute with MCU chief Kevin Feige regarding the MCU’s role in the larger Marvel universe. “We have this conversation every time I talk to Kevin, where I say, ‘The MCU is not [based on Earth-616]… ‘It’s because I said so,’ he says. ‘No, it’s 199999,’ I say. He despises it “She recalled something.

Ms. Marvel is now available to watch on Disney+, with new episodes released every Wednesday.
