Valerie Bertinelli met financial planner Tom Vitale in 2004 through the actress’ brother, Patrick, per Us Weekly. The couple went on to date for six years before he popped the question to her. “I could have spent the rest of my life with Tom and not be married, but I wanted to call him ‘my husband’,” the actress told People Magazine after the couple’s 2011 wedding. “I really wanted to share how I feel about Tom with the people I love.”
In November 2021, Bertinelli stunned her fans when she filed for a legal separation from her husband after 10 years of marriage. The “Touched By An Angel” star cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation. Six months later, in May 2022, Bertinelli took the next step to legally end her marriage when she officially filed for divorce from Vitale. The couple reportedly have a premarital agreement that they will both honor amid their split.
This will mark the second divorce for Bertinelli, who divorced her first husband, Eddie Van Halen, in 2007 after 26 years of marriage. The two remained close and co-parented their son, Wolfgang, now 31, until Van Halen’s death in 2020.
