Aaron Rodgers offloads his San Diego mansion for $5.13M as rumors fly over his future in the Packers

Aaron Rodgers sold his luxurious San Diego mansion for more than double the price he paid for it back in 2009. The 38-year-old Green Bay Packers quarterback earned $5.13 million on the house, which cost him $2,055,000 when he bought it, the New York Post reports.

Swank: The sale reportedly closed on November 29, less than a month and a half after the six-bathroom, five-bedroom home was put on the market.

There he is: News of the sale comes as Rodgers, who is the reigning MVP of the NFL, became the subject of rumors he could be traded to the Denver Broncos amid a storm of controversy over his refusal to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

Rodgers’s nearly 5,800-square-foot residence in San Diego includes a gorgeous roundabout driveway with a three-car garage, surrounded by lush greenery.

Gorgeous: Rodgers’s mansion includes an elegantly appointed study with an exposed wood vaulted ceiling.

Comfy: One of the sitting rooms, which has a similar ceiling, features a cozy-looking stone fireplace and offers views of the backyard from both sides.

Attached: That sitting room opens onto a spacious dining room that includes a transom window and, in a Mediterranean touch, is topped with a grey tile barreled ceiling.

Favorite things: The amenities include an intimate home movie theater, which features plush wall panels on either side of the screen, perfect for drowning out the sound in other parts of the home. 

Verdant vista: An upstairs sitting room, which is done in white, is fitted with expansive windows that allow for a calming view of the nearby treetops.

Wonderful: Also upstairs is a narrow dining room that offers the same view and also includes a bar that is perfect for entertaining.

What a pad: Rodgers could welcome his guests into the residence through a vast front hallway with dark hardwood flooring that gave the California mansion a slightly rustic air.

Luxe: One of the six bathrooms comes with a full bathtub as well as not one, but two glass-walled showers facing each other.

A place in the sun: Out in the backyard, Rodgers was able to enjoy a dip in the swimming pool or the attached hot tub, and could take a bit of shade under the shingled gazebo.

Overlooking it: A grey wooden balcony is situated upstairs, allowing the residents to take in views of the backyard, where multiple palm trees have been planted.

Heart of the home: The kitchen has a cold tone of green tiling around the stove, as well as a dark stone-topped island with room for several chairs.

Meanwhile, Rogers’s latest NFL season may be over, but his bitterness at fans over his vaccination controversy is still very much alive. Following his Green Bay Packers’ season-ending loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs on Saturday, the reigning NFL MVP told SiriusXM’s Pat McAfee that many fans were rooting against him because of his refusal to get vaccinated. ‘There were a ton of people tuning in, rooting against us for one reason and one reason only,’ Rodgers told McAfee. ‘It’s because of my vaccination status and them wanting to see us lose so they could pile on.’

Rodgers has not only been criticized for refusing to get vaccinated, but also for allegedly misleading the public about the issue. When asked by reporters at August’s training camp if he’d received the COVID-19 injection, Rodgers described himself as ‘immunized,’ but neglected to explain that he hadn’t received a vaccine and was actually referring to a doctor-prescribed therapeutic treatment. Rodgers’s vaccination status was revealed in early November when he tested positive for coronavirus and was subsequently required to quarantine for 10 days – the minimum amount of time an unvaccinated player is asked to quarantine, per league rules at the time (the NFL has since cut the quarantine time down to five days, per CDC guidance). After initially blaming the media and the ‘woke mob’ for the misunderstanding, Rodgers told McAfee on November 9 that he wanted to apologize ‘to anybody who felt misled.’ He also said he combatted his COVID-19 infection with recommendations from podcaster, friend, and notorious vaccine skeptic, Joe Rogan. Rodgers missed only one game due to the infection, but has been at war with reporters over a variety of issues ever since.

Now, Rodgers heads into another offseason amid uncertainty over his future in Green Bay. Due to a contract dispute, Rodgers stayed away from the team throughout the last offseason, and even skipped mandatory minicamp. However, his deal was reworked in July and Rodgers attended the team’s August training camp before delivering another MVP-caliber season over the 2021 season. Rodgers, who could decide to retire, still has another year and $26 million remaining on his contract. There is also a chance he could force his way out of Green Bay given the club’s limited salary cap space, which could force the Packers to relinquish receiver Davante Adams as well. 

NFL reporter and podcaster Jordan Schultz is reporting that Adams and Rodgers could reunite with the Denver Broncos, who are already rumored to be interested in hiring Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett (pictured) as their next head coach.

Other reporters agreed about the possibility of a mass Green Bay-to-Denver defection. ‘They will trade Rodgers to wherever Nathaniel Hackett’s coaching, probably Denver,’ Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated said on The Head of the Pack podcast. ‘Adams will go with him because the Broncos have [loads] of cap space.’

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman agreed. ‘After [the loss to the 49ers], I think the Packers trade Rodgers and Adams in a tag-and-trade to the Denver Broncos.’ Rodgers told McAfee on Tuesday he was waiting to announce any future plans for the time being. ‘I’d like to be respectful of the organization,’ Rodgers said. ‘One decision that will be upcoming will obviously be Davante and his future with the team.’ Pictured: Rodgers with Packers’ Head Coach Matt LaFleuron January 9, 2022. 

‘I think there should be enough to make a decision by [mid-July],’ Rodgers continued. ‘I don’t want to put myself on a specific date, but I do want to be sensitive to Davante and many other guys who have decisions to make on their own futures. To drag it out past free agency would be disrespectful to the organization and to those guys, and that 100 percent will not happen.’
