It was a day that Lapo Nava will never forget with the 17-year-old goalkeeper making the AC Milan teamsheet for the first time.

But that didn’t stop the humble teenager taking the tram home from the San Siro.

Milan’s usual back-up keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu was unavailable for their Serie A match against Roma on Thursday because of Covid-19 and third-choice stopper Alessandro Plizzari was out injured.

That meant Mike Maignan started the game and Nava was promoted to the substitutes’ bench along with Antonio Mirante.

Nava didn’t get on the pitch but it was still a huge occasion for the starlet, who typically plays for the Milan under-18 side.

And after his duties at the game were completed, Nava was photographed taking public transport back home with the picture shared on Twitter by journalist Nicolo Schira.

‘He returned home at the end of the game on the tram like any fan. Simplicity. A nice story,’ he wrote.

The keeper is the son of former Milan defender Stefano Nava, who was a back-up to the likes of Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini during the early 1990s.

Nava was part of the Milan squad that won back-to-back Scudettos in 1993 and 1994 as well as the 1994 Champions League. He later coached the Milan Primavera team.

Milan beat Jose Mourinho’s Roma 3-1 in the league fixture with goals from Olivier Giroud, Junior Messias and Rafael Leao as they closed the gap on league leaders and rivals Inter to a single point.
