Channel Nine’s Australian Open coverage has been hit with major setbacks after three hosts tested positive for Covid-19

Sam Groth and Todd Woodbridge, the resident tennis experts, have both been diagnosed with the virus.

Likewise, host Clint Stanaway has also taken ill ahead of the coverage, also returning a positive result. 

Clint was due to host New Year’s Eve coverage for Nine on Friday night but has since been replaced by Chris Kohler. 

Australian tennis player Todd is on the mend and is due back on air by January 5.

A Nine spokesman told The Herald Sun on Friday that all three men are doing okay all things considered, and the network’s coverage will go ahead as planned on January 17. 

‘All are feeling completely fine and have very mild symptoms,’ the representative told the paper. 

Players have been arriving in Australia over the last few days and stepping up their preparations for the 2022 season but, with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 surging across the world, disruption appears inevitable.

French Open finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is the latest player to reveal she is isolating after testing positive on arrival in Australia.

Andy Murray missed the tournament last year after an ill-timed bout of the virus. 

However, Sir Andy is among those who have been pictured practising at Melbourne Park along with defending women’s champion Naomi Osaka.
