Married At First Sight couple Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli have tested positive for coronavirus, just days after returning from North America.

Martha, 33, confirmed the news on Instagram on Wednesday night, telling her followers she had to ‘use a catfish filter because Covid makes you so ugly’.

‘I don’t know how but it changes your face and makes you ugly… and yes, Michael and I tested positive for Covid,’ she said.

Martha explained they’d tested negative upon their return to Australia from LA on Christmas Eve, then presumably caught the virus later from someone they went to dinner with.

She continued: ‘So when we left LA, we showed a negative test leaving America. As soon as we landed in Australia we did another test and we showed negative and that was Christmas Eve. We went to dinner and someone had it.’

Martha went on to list the double-vaccinated couple’s experience with the virus.

‘Covid sucks. It is so f**king shit. Some people are like, “It’s just a cold,” but it is a pretty s**t one. It’s like tonsillitis, gastro and the flu in one.’

Martha encouraged her fans to keep Covid-safe by sanitising their hands, social distancing and wearing a mask indoors to limit the spread of the virus.

She added that Michael did ‘projectile vomit’ at the start of his symptoms, which is quite uncommon.

Martha also revealed her mother, Big Brother VIP star Mary Kalifatidis, had not tested positive yet, despite the fact she and Michael are staying at her home in Melbourne.

‘Mary, by some miracle, does not have Covid, so we are just staying at home in the [bed]room,’ she added.

Michael also addressed his diagnosis on Instagram, sharing a stony-faced selfie and a screenshot of his text message alert from the Victorian health department.

‘Been better,’ he wrote.

He then answered fans’ questions and shared a timeline of their diagnoses, confirming they tested negative the day they returned to Australia (Christmas Eve) and again Boxing Day morning, before returning positive tests on December 27.

His symptoms so far include a sore throat, a dry cough, nausea and body aches.

Michael, who received two does of Pfizer earlier this year, also confirmed he and Martha waited three days to get their test results back.

The couple had spent much of December on holiday in Los Angeles, New York City and Mexico, after jetting overseas to celebrate their recent engagement.
