PENTAGON chiefs are ‘seriously’ investigating theories that UFOs disabled nuclear missiles at a US air force base, a congressman has sensationally claimed.

It comes after military officials insisted during a hearing this week that they had no knowledge of the bizarre incident at the base 55 years ago.

Rep. Tim Burchett said he received the bombshell revelation just as two officials publicly denied the incident was being looked at by the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) task force.

Former US Air Force officer Robert Salas insists he witnessed 10 nukes being taken offline over a period of eight days at Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1967 by UFOs.

Congress held a public hearing on UFOs – or UAPs as they are also known – with key witnesses Scott Bray and Ronald Moultrie.

Both Bray, deputy director of Navy Intelligence, and Moultrie, undersecretary of defence for intelligence, insisted under questioning the UAP task force has not looked at what happened.

But Rep. Burchett told The Sun Online as the pair were speaking, he received a message claiming that what they said wasn’t accurate.

“The interesting thing is that I received a text at that time from somebody in the know,” he said.

“And that said ‘in fact, they’re not telling the truth – this a documented thing. I’ve seen the file on it – it’s there, it exists. They’ve either not been shown it or they’re lying’.”

Tennessee Republican Burchett slammed the hearing, adding: “We got hosed, we really did – the cover-up continues.”

He condemned the quality of the video evidence presented which consisted of a 30-second clip, rather than any footage of the famous ‘tic tac’ UFOs.

This footage, taken from cameras on-board US Navy fighters, has led to the whole issue of UFOs – or UAPs as they are also known – being investigated seriously by the Pentagon.

“They used a questionable video. There’s plenty of videos out there they would have raised a lot of questions,” he said.

“We got a 30-second video and they couldn’t stop it to show a screen.

“It’s a joke. I wished they had brought the redacted files from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s and all the footage. I just think they’re hiding it all.”

He also said the two officials “didn’t tell us anything we already knew,” and agreed “100 per cent” that they had been brought in to stonewall questions.

“They couldn’t answer simple questions because they didn’t bring in the right people,” he explained. “They’ve brought people in who have little knowledge of UFOs or UAPs.”

He added: “They just didn’t have the answers to the questions.

“They couldn’t answer simple questions about events that happened. They said ‘we’re not privileged to that data’ – they ought to use a Google search.

“I don’t have a lot of faith in what went on and it’s a whitewash in my opinion.”

He said if Congress is serious about getting to the truth of UAPs then they should start getting pilots who have witnessed them in to testify.

“To add injury to insult there was a navy pilot from the USS Roosevelt who was there who has described what had happened – that’s the kind of guy they should have had in there testifying,” he said.

“Bring the pilots, bring the footage, bring it all. You’re going to have to give pilots immunity – saying they have immunity is one thing but it has to be legislated for.”

Salas, who was then a Captain, said the bizarre incident unfolded in, 1967, while he was the on-duty commander of a secret underground launch control facility at Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force Base.

During the hearing, Rep Mike Gallagher asked Bray about the reports about UAPs flying over “sensitive military facilities housing our nuclear forces”.

He said: “One such incident occurred at Malmstrom air force base,” and asked the official if he was aware of it and had any comment on it.

But Bray said that data on the incident was not “within the holdings of the UAP taskforce,” and he had only heard informal stories.

Apparently taken aback, Gallagher said: “It’s a pretty high profile incident. I don’t claim to be an expert on this but that’s out there.

“You’re the guys investigating it, I mean who else is doing it.”

Salas said he “was shocked because I had sent documents and details about my story to the UAP Task Force Inspector General last year”.

Following the hearing, experts slammed the Pentagon for its “terrifying” ignorance of UFO sightings over nuclear facilities after admitting they had no knowledge of them.
