Why does the Queen have two birthdays?

Every monarch in the United Kingdom went on and will go on to celebrate their birthday twice a year.

In the past, the official celebrations were not held on the actual birthday of the King or Queen.

But when King Edward VII took the throne from 1901 to 1910, he wanted to have a huge public celebration for his birthday.

Unfortunately for him, he was born in November and so the weather never really turned out quite well to host a huge birthday parade.

In June, a Trooping the Colour parade celebrates her birthday along with the public.

Also known as The Queen’s Birthday Parade, it has been held for over 260 years.
