A woman whose hoarder mother, 74, and two brothers, 44 and 42, died of Covid-19 within five days of each other has set up a cleaning business in their memory.

Debbie Mountjoy, 42, lost her mother Gladys, 74, and two older brothers Dean, 44, and Darren, 42, in 2020.

Ms Mountjoy dealt with the grief by cleaning her mother’s home – which was teaming with clutter.

The house in Trecorchy, Rhondda, was in such a state Ms Mountjoy’s father did not want to return home after his wife’s death and their grandchildren were not allowed inside.

During the marathon cleaning mission Ms Mountjoy was inspired to start her own business, specialising in clearing cluttered homes.

Ms Mountjoy said: ‘It was such a relief to finally clear it all, I was finally able to take my children in my parent’s house.

‘The difference it made to my dad’s life was incredible, so it made me want to help others.’

Ms Mountjoy started Nook and Cranny Deep Clean and Decluttering Service last year and it has now been nominated for a gong at the Welsh Business Awards which take place on Mother’s Day.

Ms Mountjoy said the award was ‘unbelievable’. She added: ‘I’m over the moon. It wouldn’t be possible without my amazing team though, it’s a team effort changing lives and changing the way people live everyday.

‘I chose the name because my mam and grandmother used to say “make sure that when you clean you get in every nook and cranny”.

‘I feel like with the company name inspired by my mother and the awards ceremony being held on mother’s day it’s like she’s still here with me.’

Ms Mountjoy’s business partner and wife Tina said: ‘Social services are now recommending us to vulnerable people in south Wales who need to deep clean their homes.’
