WHATSAPP users are being urged to change their settings – in a bid to stave off hack attacks.
Billions of people use WhatsApp around the world, so it’s a prime target for cyber-attacks.

WhatsApp has lots of features designed to protect you.
And one is particularly important: two-step verification.
A cyber-expert recently told The Sun that all users should turn this setting on as soon as possible.
“This is the first line of defence against someone trying to access your messages by configuring your number on another device,” said Tom Davidson, of cyber-firm Lookout.
“With this setting enabled, users are prompted for a PIN before the number can be associated with WhatsApp.
“It provides extra protection in case someone manages to obtain your user name and password.”
Using two-step verification could be vital when it comes to blocking hackers from gaining access to your accounts.
And it’s free and easy to set up.

How to activate two-step verification on WhatsApp
Turning on WhatsApp two-step verification is easy.
“You can manage two-step verification settings in your WhatsApp account,” WhatsApp explained.
“You have the option to enable or disable this feature, change the PIN or update the email address associated with two-step verification.”
First, open WhatsApp Settings, and then go to Account > Two-step verification > Enable.
Choose a six-digit PIN and then confirm it.
Next provide an email address that you have access to – or skip if you’d prefer.
However, adding an email address is a great way to keep your account safe – as it lets you reset two-step verification.
Now choose Next, then confirm the email address and tap Save or Done.
“If you don’t add an email address and you forget your PIN, you’ll have to wait 7 days before you can reset your PIN,” WhatsApp warns.
“Since we don’t verify this email address to confirm its accuracy, make sure you provide an accurate email address you can access.”
To disable two-step verification, simply go into WhatsApp Settings and then choose Account > Two-step verification > Disable > Disable.
You can change your PIN or email address on WhatsApp at any time.
