How to block someone on WhatsApp
Here’s what you need to do…
- 1. Open the WhatsApp chat with the contact you want to block.
- 2. Then click the name at the top of the chat.
- 3. Scroll down and you should see “Block Contact”.
- 4. Click this and then click “Block”.
Blocking an unknown number is very similar to the process above.

Click on the chat with the unknown number in the app.
Click “Block” and you should also see an option to “Report and Block”.
A blocked contact won’t be able to message or call you on WhatsApp.
How to unblock someone on WhatsApp

Here’s what you need to do…
- 1. Open WhatsApp
- 2. Tap More Options > Settings
- 3. Go into Account > Privacy > Blocked Contacts
- 4. Tap the contact you want to unblock
- 5. Then tap Unblock
Unblocking is reversible: you can block a contact again at any point.
Note that a contact won’t be alerted that you’ve unblocked or blocked them.
