Born in 1958, Ike Turner Jr. was the biological son of Ike Turner Sr. and his former partner, Lorraine Taylor. When Tina Turner married Ike Sr. in 1962, she adopted both Ike Jr. and his younger brother, Michael, raising them as her own. In a 2018 interview, Ike Jr. affirmed that “Tina raised me from the age of 2. She’s the only mother I’ve ever known.” Growing up in such a famed household, however, came with unique difficulties. He once recalled that he and his brothers were “raised by housekeepers because my mother and father were gone 11 months out of a year” on tour.
His musical talent was evident from a young age. Family members noted that “there wasn’t an instrument he did not want to play.” He initially favored the drums, but Tina insisted he break down his drum kit after each practice, which eventually led him to focus on the keyboard. His formal education was cut short when his father took him out of school at 13 to join him on the road and work at the family’s recording studio, Bolic Sound.

He followed his parents into the music industry, becoming a sought-after sound engineer and musician. He even briefly worked as Tina’s sound engineer after her split from his father, a move he alleged led to a violent confrontation with Ike Sr.. His career peak came when he won a Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Traditional Blues Album for producing his father’s album, Risin’ with the Blues.

When it comes to his immediate family, Ike Turner Jr. was a very private individual. Despite this, he was there for his father in his later years, helping him on tour and collaborating on the Grammy-winning album.
Ike Jr.’s later life was marked by significant health and legal challenges. He battled serious heart issues for years and suffered a stroke in September 2025. His cause of death was confirmed as kidney failure. In 2023, he was also arrested and charged with crack cocaine possession, a case for which he was ultimately sentenced to jail just weeks before Tina Turner’s death. His passing leaves his adopted brother, Michael Turner, as the only surviving son of Tina Turner.
