Family tragedy struck again in 1988 when his mother, Estella, nearly lost her life in a car wreck; she was in a coma for weeks and required months of hospitalization and ongoing care. During this difficult period of his mother’s recovery, Rodney moved in with his former youth league coach, Nathaniel Brooks, and spent his last two years of high school with the Brooks family, who provided stability and guidance.
Rodney built his own family early in his adulthood. Right after being drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the summer of 1993, he married his first wife, Tisa White. Together, they had three kids: two daughters named Roddreka and Rydeiah, and a son named Rodney Rogers II.
