The Bahamas is known for its deep sea fishing. Since he loves fishing, the billionaire chose it as the perfect spot to celebrate his 42nd birthday. “Happy birthday to myself :),” the golfer tweeted. “Nothing like shooting a cobia and an amberjack.”

He posted two pictures of himself holding the two massive fishes on social media. The viewers can see the fresh wound, possibly from catching two monster fishes, on his left leg in the picture. However, the golfer didn’t look hurt as he was beaming with pride.

Woods had just won the first two majors, the Masters and the U. S. Open, in 2002. And he was scheduled to play in the Western Open in Chicago before the Open Championship. However, the golfer cited being ill to skip the Western Open.

“Man, he wasn’t sick. He was spearfishing with me,” one of his fishing buddies told Wright Thompson of ESPN. Notably, Thompson found out the truth when he talked to the golfer’s acquaintance to write a lengthy story on Woods.
Although Thompson didn’t add the fishing story in The Secret History of Woods, he retold the story in an ESPN radio program. The writer explained that he even talked to the captain and the dive masters of the Jolly Roger II boat, in which Woods went fishing. And they all confirmed that the golfer wasn’t sick but used it as an excuse to pursue another one of his passions.
How many majors did Woods win in 2002?
The early 2000s were considered Woods’ prime years. He had won the Tiger Slam, winning all majors in a row, during this time.
Tiger Woods won five PGA Tour championship titles in 2002, including a World Golf Championship and two majors. As mentioned before, he won the Masters and the U. S. Open before taking the false sick leave from the Tour. He finished T28 at the Open Championship that year, followed by a solo second at the PGA Championship.
The 18-time WGC champion is known to be passionate about golf. However, skipping a championship for fishing, and the grin in his birthday picture explains that Woods is much more than a golfer.
