Tiger Woods’ participation in the 150th Open Championship has brought in a lot of excitement from around the world. However, rumors have begun to spread of Woods’ retirement. Former professional golfer and sky sports commentator Wayne Riley, popularly known as ‘Radar’, totally disagrees with these rumors and hopes to see more of the 15-time Major Champion.

Tiger Woods is currently competing at the 150th Open Championship, taking place at the “Home of Golf”, St. Andrews. The 3-time Open Champion has previously revealed that this could be his last time playing professional golf at the legendary British course.

However, Australian commentator Riley finds this news very upsetting. Moreover, he believes that Woods can continue to play professional golf for the next 5 years.

Riley hopes Tiger Woods can give us another 5 years

With rumors of Woods’s retirement circulating in the world of golf, Wayne Riley had his theories regarding the future of Tiger Woods. He also speculated how important Woods is to the game of golf.

Wayne “Radar” Riley said, “I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened and I hope it doesn’t happen, because in another five years it comes around here again to the great Old Course.” The Australian had the opportunity to play at the prestigious golf course twice in his career.

Riley shared how he had the opportunity to play alongside some of the greats of the game. He said, “We are here at The Old Course and will he stand there on the 18th and call time on his career? I’ve been lucky enough to stand there and watch Arnold Palmer, Jack Nickaus, and so many great players stand on that Swilcan Bridge and do it.

Wayne Riley ends the statement by bringing the light back on Woods by saying, “If he does it, good on you, Tiger. But c’mon, just give us another five years! He will know when that time should come and he will know exactly when it’s time to walk away from our sport.”

It’s clear to say Riley has no intention to let go of the 15-time Major champion. But at the end of the day, the final decision of his retirement can only be taken by Tiger Woods himself.

Does Riley pick Woods over Nicklaus?

The comparison of legacy between Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus has been an ongoing conversation for several years around the golf world. However, both legends share a great respect for each other and admire each other’s work in the growth of the sport.

Wayne Riley was very direct with his decision about who he admires most. Riley said, “Tiger is a golfer that keeps us all wanting more of him, he’s one of those players. He’s the most charismatic of golfers. Jack Nicklaus has got the better record and a great player, but in the modern era, Tiger Woods has just been phenomenal for our game – the greatest game of all.”

Woods is three Majors short compared to Nicklaus’ 18 Major titles. However, rather than comparing the Hall of Famers, we must acknowledge their legacy in the sport. Many greats have arrived at the PGA Tour but the accomplishments of both legends stand out from the rest.
