If the Hungarian GP was proof of anything, it was Mercedes’ future is safe in the hands of George Russell. The boy from King’s Lynn has risen through the ranks and is now at the very top. The subpar standard set around Russell quickly evaporated from his very first outing in the Mercedes W13, despite its obvious shortcomings.

George Russell is part of the elite young generation, that will surely dominate the future of the sport. Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Lando Norris, to name a few, are all part of this generation. How does a small group of individuals from the same generation all make it into the premier class? Well, Russell has an interesting theory!

Russell stated, “I was reading a book recently, and somebody was trying to understand why, for example, there was an era where all of the top footballers in the world came from Brazil?”

“And I think sometimes these things happen in packs because everybody’s pushing one another. And if you’re not being pushed, you’re never going to further yourself.”

“I guess, going back to when we were racing each other in go-karting, that’s exactly the same. We were all pushing each other.”

The competition George Russell has faced throughout his racing career until now has been from the same group of talented individuals. This sense of competition is making them push and do better. Therefore, we’re seeing a highly talented group of young racers from the same generation.

However, this sense of competition is far from over, especially after the Briton has joined the Silver Arrows.

George Russell is grateful for Lewis Hamilton’s companionship

The young Briton feels blessed to be a part of a team where he gets to compete with a seven-time world champion. George Russell is soaking it all in and taking his time with Lewis Hamilton as a learning curve.
