Serena has consistently performed at the top level. Further, major credit for this goes to her doctor, Esther Lee. She traveled with Serena over the years and the two struck a close-knit bond and became good friends. Recently, the American legend announced grim news about her friend.

Serena Williams’ close friend Esther Lee diagnosed with pancreatic cancer

The former World Number 1 took to Instagram to share devastating news about her doctor and close friend, Esther Lee. Further, sharing a post on her official Instagram handle, she said, “@estalee11 has been by my side for many years, and it was an honor to do the same for her after the devastation of her pancreatic cancer diagnoses. This @sportsillustrated story gives you a glimpse into the wildly fearless and brave road to recovery, and the many people she has inspired along the way. I couldn’t be more grateful to call her my friend.”

Along with Serena, Esther was also the doctor for Venus Williams on the tour. She made sure that the Williams sisters stayed away from injuries and had a smooth road to recovery if injured. However, Serena was left devastated after Lee was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Additionally, Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, also showed his love and support for Lee, saying, “We LOVE YOU,” on his official Instagram handle.

On the tennis front, Serena is aiming to make a comeback later this year. She has been away from tennis for over ten months now due to a hamstring injury. However, if she gets back to full fitness in time, we might see Serena in action as soon as the Wimbledon Championships.
