Lewis Hamilton has had a rather sub-standard campaign so far in 2022. His W-13 is not the quickest car on the grid and suffers from severe porpoising issues. In fact, the porpoising got so bad in Azerbaijan that it put the Briton in doubt for the following race, the Canadian GP.

However, former F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone has called the Briton’s antics a bluff. He said, “All b*******,” when asked by Daily Mail about Hamilton’s complaints after the race in Baku. He went on to add, “George [Russell] is taller, and if it was going to happen to anyone it would have happened to him.”

Ecclestone also compared Hamilton to former F1 world champion Nigel Mansell. He said, “There was a bit of Nigel Mansell about it… he would get out of the car and rub his left leg as if he had broken it. Next moment, it would be his right leg.”

The porpoising issue has held back the Briton from having a comfortable time this season. He has only managed to finish on the podium twice in nine races. Hamilton’s struggle also hints toward potential problems brewing in the Mercedes garage.

Frustrations growing within Mercedes amid Lewis Hamilton’s struggles

It is no secret that Lewis Hamilton has not had 2022 go according to plan. The 7-time world champion has massively struggled at times this season. This, coupled with his not-so-cheerful attitude at times, has prompted rather bold assumptions from Bernie Ecclestone.

The ex-F1 boss said, ‘Toto is getting a bit fed up with Lewis. I don’t think he’s trying, do you? Let’s put it another way, Lewis doesn’t seem bothered about losing”.

He went on to add, “It’s not like him. He has a competitive nature but he’s taking losing a bit easy for my liking.”

However, for the time being, Lewis will look to build on his podium in Montreal. And with his home race at Silverstone coming up next, he will hope to put up a good result. Will Hamilton be able to continue his winning streak at the 2022 British Grand Prix?
