The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics are two of the most successful NBA teams of all time. Naturally, they have a long-standing rivalry with each other. Interestingly enough, one of the best players in the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum, idolizes one of the greatest Lakers ever, Kobe Bryant.
Talking about Tatum, the Hip-Hop legend Ice Cube’s son bashed the Celtics star man on live TV. He mocked Tatum and his choice of donning the purple and yellow of the Lakers.

O’Shea Jackson Jr. said, “I’m glad that your star player is using a Laker to fuel his entire playoff role. I’m talking about Jayson Tatum, how he has to wear purple and gold on his arm in order to play well. It’s normal for people to love Kobe, but it’s abnormal to see a Celtic rock Lakers colors like that.”
In case you are looking for context, Tatum sported a number 24 armband, which was purple and yellow in color. Moreover, he texted the late Kobe Bryant before game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Miami Heat.
Does Jayson Tatum idolize Kobe Bryant?
It is no surprise that Jayson Tatum idolizes Kobe Bryant. Whether it is his play style or his antics before the game, everything resembles Kobe.
Interestingly enough, before facing the Miami Heat in game 7, Tatum actually texted the late Los Angeles Lakers legend.
Safe to say, the extra motivation before the finals worked. The Celtics beat the Heat to reach the NBA Finals, and Tatum was named the first-ever Eastern Conference finals MVP.

They continued the momentum in game 1 of the NBA finals. The Celtics showed courage and heart, and clinched a comeback win. Al Horford added his fair share of points with 26 points. Interestingly enough, this was Horford’s first-ever NBA finals despite having been playing since 2007! Safe to say, he took the opportunity well.
Although Tatum struggled, he was key for the Celtics in the final quarter as he either scored or assisted 20 out of the first 23 points of the final quarter.
