The ‘King of Clay’ proved yet again why he is called so. Rafael Nadal put on a scintillating display to breeze past Casper Ruud of Norway in the summit clash to lift his 14th French Open title. It was a memorable campaign for the Spaniard, who had to dig deep in the earlier rounds to lift the trophy.

The tennis fraternity was left awestruck by Nadal’s performance at the tournament. Social media was filled with praises for Nadal for his brilliant performance. Additionally, many celebrities across the globe also congratulated him on his special victory. Amongst them was Formula 1 driver and compatriot, Carlos Sainz.

Carlos Sainz all praise for Rafael Nadal

The Scuderia Ferrari driver took to Twitter to laud Nadal for his marvelous performance throughout the tournament. He said, “Congratulations @RafaelNadal!! The best tennis player in history!!”

Further, in a match lasting two hours and 18 minutes, Nadal was dominant right from the word go against Ruud. He put tremendous pressure on Ruud’s serve and didn’t let the Norwegian settle in the match. Nadal broke Ruud’s first service game of the match to take a 2-0 lead in the opening set. Subsequently, the two players exchanged breaks of serves to take the scoreline to 3-1. It proved to be a decisive moment in the first set as the Spaniard eventually took the set 6-3.

Further, Ruud began positively in the second set, breaking Nadal’s serve in the fourth game. However, Nadal broke back immediately to level things up in the second set. Thereafter, Nadal took the next four games to win the second set 6-3. The third set was one-way traffic with Nadal inflicting a bagel on the Norwegian to prevail over Ruud in the summit clash.

Nadal rises to the fourth spot

Following his success at French Open 2022, the 36-year-old rose a spot to be at the fourth position on the ATP rankings chart. It was Nadal’s 22nd Grand Slam title, which puts him two ahead of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who are tied at 20 major titles apiece.
