Rory McIlroy admitted on Wednesday that he was as excited as every club golfer at the thought of Tiger Woods turning up at the Masters next week.
‘I think for golf and the Masters tournament and for everyone it would be phenomenal if he makes it,’ he said.
‘Anything in golf is heightened if Tiger is there, and it would be awesome to see him competing again at Augusta.’

‘He was clearly there trying to see what he can do,’ said the 32-year-old.
‘Obviously no one knows but him if he can make it round and if he believes he can compete.’

Woods can leave it until next Wednesday to make a final decision but Friday might well prove the big day.
In the past, whenever he has been forced to withdraw, he has always made the announcement on the Friday before the Masters.
If he’s still on the list of ‘active competitors’ on the Masters website on Saturday, therefore, we can all start to dream.
