Venus and Serena Williams are the torchbearers of women’s tennis in the world. Their rise to the top has been astounding and definitely inspiring. Their father, Richard Williams trained both the players under his aegis when they were young.

However, he had talked about wishing to send them into different sports so that they could continue their education properly.

Richard Williams wished for a different field for Venus and Serena Williams

Tennis is a sport that has to be pursued by being out of school. Young players in the ATP and WTA continue their studies through correspondence. Richard Williams did not want his daughters taking courses through corresponding classes and therefore, made them enroll in schools and colleges.

He believed that track or any field sport would have done well for both of his daughters. Consequently, they would have been able to continue their studies as well. He had said, “If I had to do it over, I wouldn’t put them into tennis.”

Richard Williams had always made clear that his daughters can not miss out on school. Therefore, both the players completed their education along with excelling greatly in the tennis realm as well.

23-time grand slam winner studied fashion at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in Florida. Serena Williams further went on to study Business Management at the Isenberg School of Management, UMass Amherst.

Her sister, Venus Williams also studied at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and the Indiana University East. Both the players kept continuing their studies, and this has helped them dive into various fields as well.

Both the sisters have their fashion endeavors namely EleVen by Venus and S by Serena. Along with that, the players have not given up on their sport. Serena Williams recently played at Wimbledon, however, was defeated in the first round itself.

However, this does not bring down the morale of the tennis legend and she is still motivated for the US Open.
