Everard was last seen on March 3, 2021, as she walked home from a friend’s house in the Clapham neighborhood of London.
Her disappearance prompted a large-scale search operation. Everard’s body was discovered in a forested area in Kent, nearly 50 miles from where she was last seen alive.
The body was found after a week of extensive searches that involved dozens of volunteers and hundreds of police searching through CCTV, bus camera, and video doorbell data.
The findings were released publicly during the trial of the Metropolitan Police officer named Wayne Couzens, charged with her kidnapping and murder on March 12, 2021.
Couzens provided the autopsy findings to The Guardian on Tuesday, over three months after Everard’s suspected murder.
According to the police, “A postmortem examination into the death of Sarah Everard held at the William Harvey hospital in Ashford has given cause of death as compression of the neck.”
The police informed Sarah’s family and specialist officers supported them. Regarding Couzens, his bid to have his life sentence for the murder of Sarah Everard overturned was unsuccessful.
Meet Sarah Everard Parents, Jeremy And Susan
Sarah Everard is the daughter of Jeremy Everard and Susan Everard. Pamela Smith, a Jamaican nurse who visited London in the 1950s, was Sarah’s grandmother.
Pamela met civil engineer Ken Everard, Sarah’s paternal grandpa, who, after Second World War, moved back to Jamaica with his wife and began designing and constructing bridges for the United Nations.
Jeremy, Sarah’s father, and Nick and Douglas, her two uncles, were all born and raised on the island in the Caribbean.

After the name of Wayne Couzens was released, Jeremy told Wayne- “No punishment that you receive will ever compare to the pain and torture that you have inflicted on us.”
Sarah’s father, Jeremy Everard, is a professor at the University of York. Susan’s mother moved to London, where her brother James and sister Katie also lived.
Before shifting to London, she had completed her geography degree at Durham University. In 2013, she took a break to South America.
Susan was working as a charity worker and appeared in court alongside her daughter’s killed and said she was heartbroken by what he had done.
