CORRIE legend Beverley Callard has taken a swipe at the soap, gushing that her “world has opened up” since leaving the show.
Beverley, 65, played the role of Liz McDonald on the ITV series for over 30 years, before leaving in 2020.
She spoke excitedly about her future projects as she joined Lorraine Kelly for a chat on her Monday morning show.
The actress stars in the new Gold comedy Newark, Newark, which airs tonight, alongside Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey) and comedian Morgana Robinson.
Beverley said about the part: “To be honest, you get scripts come through and I thought, I’m gonna wait for the right thing.
“I did think I’m going to do a role that’s really serious… have no make-up on and just be real – and then this script came through and the characters just jumped off the page.

“I thought I can’t say no to this.”
She’s also set to star alongside Johnny Vegas in UKTV’s Meet The Richardsons.
She giggled: “I was flirting with Johnny Vegas and I had the best time!”
As Lorraine commented on how happy she looked, Beverley admitted: “Honestly, when you hand in your notice to something like Coronation Street – which I loved – after 32 years, I thought this is it, I’m gonna go.
