Matthew – played by Osi Okerafor on the BBC hospital drama – arrives at the ED exhausted after a night of PTSD nightmares.

Stevie is worried that Matthew may not be in fit to treat patients – but he bluntly tells her to mind her own business.

She later discovers Matthew’s notebook which leaves her further concerned, but she’s forced to put her concerns aside when a serious case comes in.

Despite his own health worries, Matthew continues to see patients including Curtis who has glass in his hand and Michelle who has a laceration to the throat.

Michelle’s wound triggers Matthew’s PTSD, and he tries to hide how much it is affecting him.

Stevie is later shocked to hear that Matthew used a field medicine technique to stabilise Michelle and tries to persuade Rash to keep an eye on him.

But Rash defends Matthew and says he’s so diligent that he even keeps a record of every patient he’s lost in his notebook.

A shocked Stevie confronts Matthew and accuses him of treating the ED like a warzone – showing him his notebook.

Stevie tells him to let go of the past, but with emotions running high, they share an unexpected kiss.

Believing that Matthew has come to his senses and asked for help when she sees him speaking to Dylan, Stevie is relieved.

However, she is horrified to learn that Matthew has accused her of sexual harassment.

A frantic Stevie tries to defend herself and tells Dylan that Matthew is lying to cover up his PTSD struggles.

When Matthew freezes again in Resus, Stevie announces to everyone that he has PTSD and is struggling to cope.

However, Matthew manages to recover in time to stabilise his patient, leaving her staff questioning her motives.
