The BBC thriller was slammed for being ‘unrealistic’[/caption]

Crossfire follows her family along with the friends she had met on holiday as they fought for survival when armed gunmen unleashed fire on the resort’s lounging guests.

The first episode left fans watching in fear as they watched the friends and their children become separated while trying to seek safety.

But while some remained on the edge of their seats, others were left questioning why the characters hadn’t called the police.

Alongside an array of confused-faced emojis, one person questioned: “Watching Crossfire start with a bang again tonight. But where on earth are the police?”

ROLE REVERSAL

How Keeley Hawes new drama has all action of The Bodyguard but with a twist

Echoing their comments, someone else said: “There is not one, not two, but three police forces in Spain and the Canary Islands. They must all be on holiday…”

While a third added: “Second episode in and still no sign of any police. Completely unrealistic. Such a shame because it had so much potential.”

The three-part series – which is purely fictional and not based a true story – was created and written by Louise Doughty.

Nonetheless, those watching at home were soon left changing the channel after a shooting massacre played out on screen.

Others likened the thriller to the 2015 Tunisia terror attack.

In 2015, Imperial Marhaba hotel in the Mediterranean resort of Sousse was hosting 565 guests when Seifeddine Rezgui launched an attack on people on the beach.

He used a Kalashnikov assault rifle he had concealed in a beach umbrella to fire at tourists.

The terrorist then entered the hotel, gunning down tourists who crossed his path – in total 38 people were killed, 30 of them British.
