DANCING On Ice judge, Christopher Dean, revealed the show had wanted to recreate Strictly Come Dancing’s Blackpool episode.

The ice skating legend explained how producers wanted to film this weekend’s episode in a Nottingham theatre to pay homage to where he met his skating partner, Jayne Torvill.

It was supposed to be part of a special ‘Torvill and Dean week’ but thanks to a booking blunder is not going ahead there.

Show bosses left it too late to book a theatre, with Christopher hoping they’ll be able to pull it off next year.

“Initially, the plan was to go to Nottingham and put on the show within a theatre,” he told TV Times magazine.

“However, because of the pandemic and all the theatres now opening back up again, they were all booked and we couldn’t get in! But maybe that’s something for the future …”

Christopher’s partner, Jayne Torvill, opened up about Dancing On Ice dedicating an entire episode to the iconic figure skating duo.

“It’s the first time that we’ve done this. It was a discussion that came up before Christmas – we were talking about different themes and the producers asked us how we felt about it,” Jayne said.

“We were very honoured that we were going to have a whole week devoted to us, and the routines that we’ve done in the past.”

She added: “It’ll be really interesting to see what takes the couples have on doing routines to music that we’ve used in competitions before.”

Christopher also shared some behind the scenes secrets of what fans can expect this week.

“The only one that they won’t be using is Bolero. That’s for the couples that get through to the final,” he explained.

“We’re kind of the MCs, opening the show. We’ll be on the ice, introducing all the couples who are still in the competition.”

The sensational Ice Dance legends got a perfect score from the judges in 1984 on Valentine’s Day when they performed Ravel’s Bolero at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics.

The pair also confirmed they’ll take to the ice again themselves in the final.

“We always look forward to performing – and we’re lucky we can still skate in a certain way at our ages,” Jayne said.

The stars competing to make it to the final this week include, Kimberly Wyatt, Connor Ball, Kye Whyte, Brendan Cole, Regan Gascoigne and Stef Reid.

Dancing On Ice airs Sundays on ITV.
