EastEnders’ fans loved a tribute to the Lionesses Euros victory on Monday’s episode.

The BBC soap showed punters in The Queen Vic celebrating the victory with Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) exclaiming “mate, it came home!”

Eastenders paid tribute to the Lionesses historic Euro victory

A group of women dressed in English football kits and waving English flags dances happily through the pub.

Kim raised a glass as she celebrated with landlady Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold).

Linda said to Kim she was surprised to see her following the football, but Kim declared she did when it came to “strong winning women.”

“This has changed everything,” Kim added.

“The game. Women in sports everywhere. Pearl watched it and loved it.

“Every single one of them is a role model, I’m telling you. If you can see it, you can be it.”

Fans watching at home loved the tribute to the historic win.

“Luv when it’s topical, c’mon The Lionesses,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

Another added: “Loved this tribute to the Lionnesses.”

And a third wrote: “#EastEnders doing a well deserved @Lionesses nod in tonight’s episode.”

Eastenders has recently begun releasing all four weekly episodes of Eastenders on BBC iPlayer before they air on TV.

It is thought show bosses would update the episode already on iPlayer to show the iconic scene with the three women.

The women’s English football team secured the nation’s first major football trophy since the World Cup in 1966 by beating Germany at Wembley last night in the Euro 2022 final.

A record crowd for a European Championships match – men’s or women’s – were in attendance at Wembley.

A whopping 87,192 crammed into the national stadium on Sunday evening to watch Chloe Kelly’s dramatic extra-time winner – prompting wild scenes inside the ground and across the nation.

A peak audience of 17.4million watched the game on BBC One last night as Gabby Logan fronted the brilliant coverage.

That is the most people to tune in for a women’s football match in UK history – and the biggest TV audience of the year to date.

Millions more piled into fan parks, pubs and lounges to take in the memorable occasion as Sarina Wiegman’s side really did bring football home.

Wembley broke into utter bedlam when Kelly poked home with ten minutes to go.
