Fans rip into ‘unbelievable’ hospital blunder on EastEnders
Baffled BBC One viewers swarmed over to social media branding the scene “unrealistic” and even insensitive.
For the past few weeks, Stuart has struggled to come to terms with his condition after he was diagnosed with male breast cancer.
In recent episodes of the long-running drama, the character portrayed by Ricky Champ finally opened up to his wife Rainie about his diagnosis.
But while the storyline attracted the attention of many viewers, some applauding the BBC soap for raising awareness around men with breast cancer, it has also ruffled a lot of feathers following last night’s episode.
During the instalment, Rainie and Stuart were offered “an emergency appointment” and were able to visit with an NHS specialist.
The latter explained that he could fit Stuart in the same week for surgery.
But off-screen, and as fuming EastEnders viewers at home noted, waiting times can often add up to weeks or even months.
Fans of the programme turned to Twitter and bashed the segment, one viewer admitting that the wait time were sometimes so long, some patients don’t even survive the illness.
“If EastEnders want to be realistic, cancer treatment takes months to get in the UK at the moment. My family lost someone because diagnosis and treatment took too long”, the viewer Tweeted.
