The deaf actor, 53, was mystified that he had earned a similar honour at the BAFTA Awards hours earlier as he said via interpreter: ‘I just — I can’t believe it that this is happening the same night, two birds with one stone, you know what I mean?’

CODA also made history at the 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in California as the deaf cast became the first ever ensemble to win top prize Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Troy was the first ever deaf individual to be recognised.
The critically-acclaimed movie is centered around a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) named Ruby (played by Emilia) who is the only hearing person in her deaf family.
Emilia recently discussed her nine-month journey learning sign language.
She said on This Morning: ‘The sign language and the singing I had to work the most on, I trained for nine months. It was a lot of hard work but it was so rewarding when I finished.’
