NEIGHBOURS fans will know all about the famous love triangle between Izzy, Karl and Susan.
The famous character, seen by many as a homewrecker, then made an explosive return in July 2022 – but what do we know about actress Natalie Bassingthwaighte ,and what are those famous plotlines? We’ve got the lowdown.
Who is Natalie Bassingthwaighte?
Most know her as Izzy, but the Neighbours star is played by actress Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
Natalie started out in musical theatre, then went into acting, with her role as Izzy on Neighbours from 2003 the career move that made her name.
She became lead singer of Australian electro pop band Rogue Traders in 2004 and left Neighbours in 2006 to focus on her music career.
She has hosted So You Think You Can Dance Australia, been a judge and mentor on The X Factor Australia and launched a children’s clothing label called Chi Khi.
Who did Natalie Bassingthwaighte play in Neighbours?
Natalie played the character of Izzy Hoyland who has been involved in some dramatic storylines.
This includes her moving in with Karl Kennedy after he broke up with wife Susan, and claimed that he was the father of her unborn baby.

After breaking up with Karl, she went on to date Paul Robinson, and also had an affair with Ned Parker.
She tried to get back with Karl, despite the fact he was trying to rekindle his relationship with Susan.
When Karl accepted a ride home with Izzy, she gave him too much sleeping medication inside his apartment, which made him believe Izzy was Susan – and he begged her to stay the night.
Susan overheard Izzy say that Karl was the father of her baby – she eventually gives birth to daughter, Holly.

In 2018, Izzy returns to Erinsborough and is accidentally run over by her arch enemy Susan.
The accident happens as Toadie Rebecchi’s loved ones gather for his 90s-themed belated 21st birthday party.
After the crash, snaps showed Karl tending to Izzy in the ambulance – with Susan nowhere to be seen.
In 2022, Izzy is back again – hoping to become Susan’s daughter-in-law.
Both Karl and Susan are shocked to see she is dating their son Malcolm.
What other TV shows has Natalie Bassingthwaighte been in?
Natalie’s first television role as an actress was in a 1998 episode of the hospital-based drama series All Saints.
The star appeared in various other shows until her debut in Neighbours in 2003.
In 2008, Bassingthwaighte made her debut as a television presenter, hosting the Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance. She hosted the show for its first three seasons
In 2009, she starred in the Australian horror film Prey then from April to June 2010, Bassingthwaighte starred in the 13-part television crime mini-series, Underbelly: The Golden Mile, playing the role of Maria Haken.
In 2011, she replaced Natalie Imbruglia as a judge and mentor on the third season of The X Factor Australia.
She then returned for the show’s fourth, fifth and sixth seasons.
In 2015, she replaced Natalia Kills midway through the second season of The X Factor New Zealand after Kills was fired from the show.
In 2017, she became a contestant on the third season of the reality series I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! Australia.

In 1998 Natalie married Graham Wilmott, a chef from Wollongong, and the couple were together for two years.
In 2010, Bassingwaighte and her long-time boyfriend Cameron McGlinchey had a daughter and tied the knot in December 2011.
In 2013, she gave birth to their second child, a son.
