While this theory is yet to be officially confirmed, Darriana, Groves’ ex-girlfriend who was arrested shortly after his escape for her role in him fleeing has gone viral once again.

Authorities have alleged that Darriana Burton, who was the girlfriend of escaped inmate Derrick Groves, reportedly helped coordinate communications before his daring escape from the Orleans Justice Center. Burton is a former Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) employee and now faces charges of conspiracy to commit simple escape. Although she has not yet been convicted of any charges, investigators have accused her of using her prior connections to facilitate Groves’ plan.
According to officials, Burton’s name has come into conversation after months of probing that revealed communication records between Groves and several outside contacts before the breakout. Burton was initially arrested in June 2025, just one month after the escape, while her bond was set at $2.5 million. Investigators reportedly traced calls made through jail-issued tablets to Burton, and prosecutors have alleged that these conversations helped set up logistical support for Groves’ escape. In response to the accusations, Burton has, however, maintained her innocence and argues that she is being unfairly linked to her former boyfriend’s actions.
