However, new evidence now suggests that law enforcement may have wrongfully implicated him, Lacy, with legal experts and political leaders now demanding accountability.
Tyler Werner accused of falsely implicating Kyren Lacy
A recent bodycam footage released by the defense shows Officer Tyler Werner allegedly pressuring a witness to say that Kyren Lacy caused the fatal crash. However, the footage shows the driver of the truck involved, strongly insisting that another vehicle—referred to as “vehicle 2”—was responsible. The new developments have now raised serious concerns about how authorities handled the investigation and whether Werner deliberately tried to frame Lacy.
Kyren Lacy’s defense attorney speaks out
While releasing the new evidence, defense attorney Matthew Ory appeared on HTV 10 and stated:
“We know from data that Kyren Lacy did, in fact, pass four cars. There’s no disputing that. However, he was back in his lane of travel, 92.3 yards behind Mr. Hall at the time of impact. Key word: behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted. Never.”
Ory also highlighted mounting evidence that another vehicle, traveling nearly 50 mph and just 0.5 seconds behind Hall’s car, actually caused the fatal collision.

He provided bodycam footage of an officer talking to a man in that truck, who claimed that the driver of vehicle 2 caused the crash and the officer, identified as Tyler Werner, appeared to pressure the driver to implicate Lacy, which the driver refused.
Louisiana State Police responds
In response to the release of the footage, the Louisiana State Police has rejected all claims, stating that their investigation used all available crash reconstruction data. The statement read:
“Investigative findings revealed that Mr. Lacy’s reckless driving while approaching oncoming traffic led to the events of the crash.”
The department stated that Kyren Lacy’s driving set off a chain of events leading to the fatal crash.
The Louisiana Democratic Party demands justice
The Louisiana Democratic Party has now stepped in and condemned the handling of the case and demanded that Attorney General Liz Murrill launch an independent investigation. They called the accusations against Lacy “deeply troubling” and announced their plans for “The Lacy Law.” According to the party, “The Lacy Law” will be legislation aimed at penalizing false reporting and protecting citizens from wrongful accusations.
