At the end of Survivor 49‘s premiere, a card showed on screen reading, “In loving memory of Vince Costello, forever in our hearts.”
Costello was a Location Manager on Survivor during its residence in Fiji, responsible for finding and securing locations during production of a film or TV show. As a native Fijian, he had been helping scout out places in the Mamanuca Islands for the tribe camps, challenge sites and Tribal Council.

Vince Costello, who was a devoted member of Survivor’s production team, recently passed away in 2025 at the age of 61. Costello served as the show’s Location Manager from 2016 to 2025, playing a crucial role in its success. His sudden passing has marked the end of an era for the beloved reality competition. Beyond his work on the show, Vince built deep personal ties within the Survivor crew community.
Cause of death
According to reports, Vince Costello lost his life to late-stage liver cancer just shortly after Survivor 50 finished filming. According to the show’s executive producer Jesse Jensen, Vince and his family relocated to Australia for treatment.
He had been diagnosed with with late stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma, also known as liver cancer.

Tributes and condolences have since been pouring in from colleagues and fans alike. Jesse Jensen described Vince as someone who gave:
“so much to all of us—through his work, his kindness, and most of all his friendship.”
The family has since set up a GoFundMe page for Vince, which has raised over AUD 86,000. Co-workers and viewers have also been pouring in with their tributes and condolences.

Back in 2023, People Magazine featured him and his children and showed how much his family had also become a part of the Survivor legacy.
Wife and children
Vince Costello leaves behind his children, Aline and Patrick, who continue to carry forward his Survivor legacy. Aline is currently 28 years old and began on the “Dream Team” before joining the locations department alongside her father. Patrick, who is now 21 years old, started in post-production and later transitioned into camera work.
