16-year-old woman arrested for ‘stealing’ three-day-old child from hospital

A 16-year-old girl was caught stealing a three-day-old baby girl from Masindi General Hospital in Uganda.

It was gathered that {{the teenager}}, a resident of Nyabyeya village in Budongo sub-county in Masindi district, posed as an attendant on the maternal ward in Masindi General Hospital.

She then approached a model new mum acknowledged as Sarah Nanjinga, 25, and glad her useful over her baby so she’s going to be capable of relieve her of the child whereas she rests.

Nanjinga, who had merely delivered her baby by C-section on the hospital on April 28, 2022, handed over the toddler to the stranger.

The suspect later disappeared with the toddler, prompting Nanjinga to report the case to Masindi Central Police station.

Dr. Felix Twinomugisha, the Medical Superintendent at Masindi General hospital said the supervisors on the ward weren’t aware that the suspect, who had reportedly spent 4 days inside the ward, was posing as an attendant.

He cautioned mothers to be careful with their new baby infants on the various properly being facilities inside the district, together with that there are numerous people specializing in new baby infants.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine space police spokesperson said {{the teenager}} was arrested in her hideout in Nyabyeya village and positioned her with the stolen baby.

“She is currently being held at the police station whereas investigations proceed to find out how the baby was stolen from Masindi hospital,” Hakiza said.

The police spokesperson said as quickly as police investigations are through, the suspect will appear in courtroom on bills of kid theft.
